Short description

ZENTEL DUAL Pediatric Oral Suspension is a highly effective, single-dose medication designed specifically for children to treat a broad range of intestinal parasitic infections. Each 10 mL dose contains 400 mg of Albendazole and 100 mg of Quinfamide, combining two active ingredients to target both helminthic (worm) and protozoal (amoebic) infections. The banana flavor ensures easier and more pleasant administration for children.

ZENTEL DUAL effective in the treatment of acute intestinal amoebiasis or amoebic dysentery caused by Entamoeba histolytica. ZENTEL DUAL is also effective in treating Giardiasis caused by Giardia intestinalis (lamblia). ZENTEL DUAL effective anthelmintic against nematodes and cestodes, indicated in the treatment of Enterobius vermicularis, Ascaris lumbricoides, Strongyloides stercoralis. Necator americanus, Ancylostoma duodenale, Trichuris trichiura, Taenia saginata, Taenia solium, and Hymenolepis nana.

Indications:

  • Helminthic Infections:

    • Treats a variety of intestinal worm infections, such as roundworms (Ascaris lumbricoides), hookworms (Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus), and whipworms (Trichuris trichiura).
    • Albendazole is an anthelmintic that works by disrupting the glucose metabolism of parasites, leading to their death and expulsion.
  • Protozoal Infections:

    • Giardiasis caused by Giardia lamblia and amoebiasis caused by Entamoeba histolytica.
    • Quinfamide is an antiprotozoal agent that targets these parasites by disrupting their ability to reproduce and survive in the intestines.

How It Works:

  • Albendazole (400 mg per 10 mL):
Albendazole is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic that kills intestinal worms by inhibiting their ability to absorb glucose, leading to their eventual death. It is effective in eliminating the worms at all stages of their lifecycle, including larvae, eggs, and adults.

  • Quinfamide (100 mg per 10 mL):
Quinfamide is an antiprotozoal that effectively targets protozoal organisms like Giardia and Entamoeba histolytica, interfering with their ability to reproduce and infect the intestines.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Recommended Dose:

    • A single 10 mL dose of the suspension, providing 400 mg of Albendazole and 100 mg of Quinfamide.
    • The dosage may vary depending on the child’s age, weight, and the type of infection. Always follow the healthcare provider’s instructions for the correct dose.
  • Administration:

    • Shake well before use to ensure the suspension is mixed properly.
    • Administer the full 10 mL dose directly using the provided dosing spoon or as directed by the healthcare provider.
    • The medication can be taken with or without food, and the banana flavor makes it easier for children to accept.

Precautions:

  • Not recommended for children with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to Albendazole, Quinfamide, or any of the ingredients in the formulation.
  • Liver or kidney disease: Use with caution in children with liver or kidney problems, as it may require dose adjustments.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult a healthcare provider before use if the child is pregnant, breastfeeding, or has any underlying medical conditions.
  • Ensure the child receives the entire dose; if any portion is missed or vomited, consult a healthcare provider for advice.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects:

    • Mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or diarrhea. These side effects are typically mild and temporary.
    • Headache or dizziness in some children.
  • Rare Side Effects:

    • Allergic reactions like rash, itching, or swelling.
    • Liver toxicity may occur in rare cases, indicated by symptoms such as yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or abdominal discomfort.
    • Fatigue or drowsiness may occur in some children.
